This month the Greater New Haven Branch of the NAACP will being hosting Financial Literacy Sessions each week.

Spencer Cephas,
Spencer Cephas is a Financial Representative of NorthWestern Mutual. He assists individuals and
businesses in achieving the future they envision. This is accomplished through a holistic process which
identifies where the client is and what their priorities are. Subsequently, he develops customizable and
comprehensive financial plans.
Spencer has always had a heart for service and helping others in need. From helping to collect canned
food items for local shelters, to participating in missionary trips to build churches in South America. He
has a track record of putting others needs before his own and loves to give back to his community.
His professional career started at the Hartford/Windsor Marriott fresh out of high school in the banquet
department. Working upwards of 60 hours a week he was used as a swiss army knife throughout all
departments to deliver exemplary customer service skills to guest and corporate executives. Furthering
his career, he transitioned to Verizon retail franchises where he worked his way up from a sales
representative to a multi-store managing partner. He was dedicated to building and developing new
markets, training leadership, balancing inventory profit margins and excelling in customer interactions.
Verizon helped develop his ability to run multiple businesses from the inside out along with honing his
leadership abilities with the help of his mentor Shawn Malone. Spencer’s final employment before
contracting with NM was with Paychex as a small business retirement consultant. Utilizing various tax
mitigation strategies, he helped small business owners establish customized qualified retirement plans
through their business. While doing so he was able to create legacies for the families of both the
employer and employees of businesses throughout Northeast Connecticut and Western Mass.
