Message from the President

Greetings,

It is an honor to serve as the President of the Greater New Haven Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the oldest civil rights organization in this nation. I thank the members of this Branch for electing and entrusting me to provide leadership over the Greater New Haven Branch. I stand on the shoulders of a great legacy of pioneers and leaders in this community, and I humbly accept this important responsibility to uphold the organization’s vision of a society in which all individuals have equal rights without discrimination based on race.

Please browse our website to learn more about our programs and events. We take great care to align our activities to the needs of the community. Our success is made possible by the collective efforts of an extraordinary executive board, dedicated committee members and individuals who are members of this Branch. Feel free to stop by our office, 545, Whalley Avenue, New Haven, or call 203-389-7275, if you are interested in joining a NAACP committee.

Membership is the lifeblood of the organization. I encourage you to join our membership and, particularly, to become a life member. Why?

  1. A membership in the NAACP is your opportunity to give back to an organization that has done more to change this country for the betterment of people of color, women, and the disenfranchised than any other in the nation’s history.
  2. Your membership makes you a part of the solution and the people who stand for the freedoms guaranteed in our nation’s constitution.
  3. Your membership makes a direct and positive impact in the Greater New Haven community.

Please join us for a meeting on every third Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm, at St. Luke’s Parrish Hall, 111 Whalley Avenue, New Haven, CT.

The primary focus of the NAACP continues to be the protection and enhancement of the civil rights, equal justice and fair treatment for all people. Our journey for justice and equality is still relevant today. I look forward to working with you – individuals, elected officials, church pastors, and business leaders – to impact the community in a way we can all be proud.

Sincerely,

Doris J. Dumas

President
